Data Quality Analyst
WHO WE ARE
DLG (Digital Luxury Group) is a Swiss-headquartered company building an AI-powered market intelligence platform used by leading luxury brands to understand their markets, competitors, and consumers. Our platform processes millions of data points across search trends, social signals, and market movements to give luxury executives clarity they can't get anywhere else.
We're growing our tech team in South Africa as part of our international operation spanning Europe, China and the US. You'll work on real products using Python, BigQuery, cloud infrastructure, and AI/LLM integrations — with direct impact and genuine ownership of what you build.
THE ROLE
As a Data Quality Analyst, you are the guardian of the "Source of Truth" for our data intelligence platform. You will balance a hands-on, investigative mindset with a drive for technical automation. This role is unique because it requires someone who is comfortable with "hands on" raw data checks while simultaneously building the code-based systems that make manual checks obsolete over time.
Your work is divided into three equally vital pillars: Manual Validation (The Foundation), Automation & Monitoring (The Scale), and Incident Response (The Resolution).
WHAT YOU’LL DO
1. Manual Data & Business Logic Validation (The Foundation)
- Conduct deep-dive investigations into new data sources to understand the "real-world" baseline and the business logic behind the data.
- Perform initial rounds of raw data validation against the source of truth for every new data source integrated into the platform.
- Ensure that the transition from "raw data" to "platform insight" maintains absolute integrity.
2. Data Quality Automation & Monitoring (The Scale)
- Translate manual findings into automated solutions. Design and implement Python scripts, SQL automation rules, and proactive alerts.
- Build and maintain data health dashboards (Looker Studio/BigQuery) to identify anomalies before they reach the client.
- Develop continuous monitoring mechanisms to track data freshness, volume, and distribution.
3. Data Incident Management (The Resolution)
- Act as the primary point of contact for Data Quality incidents reported by internal teams or external users.
- Perform root-cause analysis (RCA) to determine if issues stem from the raw source, ingestion pipelines, or processing logic.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to resolve bugs and verify fixes, ensuring the data is corrected and re-processed accurately.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE GREAT IN THIS ROLE
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Experience: 3+ years in Data Quality, Data Operations, or Data Engineering
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL (complex joins/audits) and Python (for automation)
- Cloud Stack: Experience with BigQuery or similar cloud data warehouses
- The Hybrid Mindset: You are comfortable with meticulous, detailed manual work but have the technical drive to automate repetitive tasks
- Communication & Coordination: You can clearly explain a complex data issue to an engineer and its business impact to a stakeholder
- Detail-Oriented: A keen eye for detail; you notice the anomaly that others miss
Nice to have:
- Experience with data quality tools (Great Expectations, dbt tests, Soda, or similar)
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (Looker Studio or similar)
- Experience validating data from external APIs and web scrapers
- Experience in Luxury industry (watches, jewelry, or fashion)
- Familiarity with e-commerce and social media datasets
This is a fully remote position based in South Africa.
